6M25E представляет собой шестицилиндровый четырехтактный дизельный двигатель, нереверсивный, с турбонаддувом, промежуточным охлаждением и с прямым впрыском топлива.
Это новый двигатель, специально разработанный для обеспечения снижения стоимости эксплуатации при сохранении высокой безотказности работы. М25Е основан на проверенной версии М25С, но был оптимизирован для снижения расхода топлива и улучшения принятия нагрузки.
